An exciting opportunity is available for a full-time Integrated Water Management Officer at the Mornington Peninsula Shire. This position drives the strategic framework for water management and will lead key projects regarding recycled water and water quality improvements for the Shire.

 

About the business & role

The Integrated Water Management Officer is a key member of the Climate Change, Energy and Water (CCEW) team. This team is one of five strategic teams within the Infrastructure Strategy and Climate Change Unit. This officer is responsible to lead and deliver implementation and review of the Shires strategic water plan the ‘Smart Water Plan’. This includes development and delivery of key programs and projects and represent the Shire on the State led Integrated Water Management working groups.

Water conservation, water quality improvements, alternative water use are all activity areas of the role. The position advises and coordinates with other teams across the Shire regarding water management improvements and represents the Shire and its community in the water sector, as delegated by the Manager of CCEW.

 

Job Tasks & Responsibilities 

The role entails delivery of agreed outcomes of the Mornington Peninsula Shire Smart Water Plan as well as working with agency partners to deliver contracted projects. The continual development and delivery of the Smart Water Plan involves desktop reviews, community consultation, project planning and managing the delivery of technical reporting on whole of catchment water cycle management. The Officer will also be required to contribute to the corporate Climate Change objective and prepare for climate change risk management by long term water resource management.

This role is responsible for the following dimensions:

  • Leadership in the Shires strategic management of water balance.
  • Identifying opportunities for Integrated Water Management.
  • Developing strategies and approaches.
  • Project planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • Stakeholder engagement.
  • Building strong relationships internally and externally to the organisation.
  • Request for quote and preparation.
  • Budget planning and management of expenditure.
  • Report preparation.
  • Identify opportunities for new partnerships and a variety of funding sources for projects and initiatives
  • Represent Council on external working groups and forums.

Skills & Experience 

The applicant will be required to have completed a degree or diploma in Engineering, Environmental Science/ Agriculture or Public Policy and have at least three years project management experience. The successful candidates will:

  • Be prepared to obtain an Employee Working with Children Check (mandatory).
  • Be prepared to undertake an Australian Criminal History Check (mandatory).
  • Hold a current Drivers Licence (mandatory).
  • Demonstrate a high level of communication skills.
  • Be highly motivated with a desire to achieve excellence.
  • Have an understanding of the water sector, water policies and relationship between state and local government in whole of water cycle management.
