  • Permanent full-time position – Band 6 ($84,315)
  • Assist in achieving the ‘Our Connectivity’ objectives of Our Peninsula 2021 Plan.
  • Provide specialist road safety and traffic engineering guidance for projects, proposals and programs across the Mornington Peninsula.

About the business & role 

The Traffic and Transport Team is one of five teams that make up the Infrastructure Strategy and Climate Change Unit.  As a key member of this Team, you will be required to undertake a variety of tasks not limited to the following:

  • Provide specialist guidance for projects, proposals, programs and improvements in the fields of road safety and traffic. engineering including concept development of cost effective solutions and management of statutory processes.
  • Advocate on behalf of Council and the community for improved road safety and accessibility to all levels of government as well as external stakeholders.
  • Maximise outcomes of external funding opportunities to implement improvements in the municipality.
  • Manage or assist with road safety and transport related strategy development and implementation. 

Job Tasks & Responsibilities 

You will be accountable for the provision of high level professional advice and guidance to Council and senior management, residents and customers both internally and externally.   

You will be required to engage and manage consultants, assess, review and prioritise potential speed limit changes, undertake community consultation, and prepare a variety of reports.

You will confidently represent, advocate, and proactively network with government agencies, members of parliament, other municipalities and professional associations on behalf of the Shire in respect to road safety improvements and accessibility.

 

Skills & Experience

The applicant will be required to have completed a Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent and experience in Local Government traffic engineering is desirable.

 

The successful candidate will: 

  • Hold an Employee Working with Children Check (mandatory)
  • Be prepared to undertake an Australian Criminal History Check (mandatory)
  • Hold a current Driver's Licence (mandatory)
  • Hold a Bachelors’ Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • Possess Traffic Engineering experience (preferably in Local Government).
  • Have suitable Computer Skills (Microsoft Office applications) and a commitment to exceptional customer service.
