  • Annualised Package $115,000 to $130,000 (depending on registration & experience)

About the business & role

As part of Council's investment and commitment to the growth of the Statutory Building Unit we are currently seeking applications to appoint a new Building Surveyor to join the current team of five Building Surveyors, Deputy Municipal Building Surveyor and Municipal Building Surveyor.

 

The role will see you working throughout the vibrant and developing Mornington Peninsula.

 

The objective of this position is to assist the Statutory Building Team to protect the health, safety and amenity of occupants and the public within the Shire.

 

As well as ensuring compliance with building legislation by responding to building enquiries, undertaking building inspections, providing support relating to essential services, swimming pool barriers, responding to counter/phone and ratepayers requests for services logged for the Mornington Peninsula Shire Statutory Building Team.

A key element of this position is the provision of an efficient inspectorial service and enforcement advice to ratepayers and clients for the Statutory Building Team.

The position requires the incumbent to administer the Building Legislation in an autonomous manner and under limited supervision, whilst satisfying Council’s Statutory requirements and providing a high level of customer service.

Job Tasks & Responsibilities

  • You will be required to efficiently administer the provisions of the Building Act, Building Regulations and Local Laws (as applicable).
  • Contribute to the statutory responsibilities of the Shire as required under Victorian Building Control legislation to ensure compliance with Building Legislation.
  • Undertake inspections to ensure buildings and associated works are in accordance with the Building Act and Regulations.
  • Under the guidance of the MBS, conduct inspections of sites for legislative compliance and accurately record the results of inspections, whether mandatory or complaint based and prepare Notices and Orders and other legal documents as required.
  • Participate in the provision of a day and night time, weekend and weekday after hours/on call system on a rostered basis of one week and one weekend as required (approximately 10 weeks per year with on call allowance and overtime).

 

Skills & Experience

  • Registration with the Building Practitioners Board in the category of Building Surveyor.
  • A thorough knowledge of the Building Act, Building Regulations, Building Code of Australia, associated Australian Standards and Codes.
  • The ability to read and interpret plans and related building documentation. 
  • A valid Employee Working with Children Check
  • A Victorian Driver’s Licence.
  • This position requires a Australian Criminal History Check.
