The Project Delivery Unit leads a key role in the delivery of a diverse range of infrastructure projects for the community. The team oversees a turnkey approach to infrastructure delivery, from project initialisation through to completion and handover.

Mornington Peninsula Shire is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic Civil Design Engineer / Project Manager to be part of its Project Delivery Team to assist in the design and delivery of civil projects in its diverse $60M+ annual Capital Works Program.

About the position

The purpose of the Civil Design Engineer / Project Manager is to design and deliver an agreed annual portfolio of civil infrastructure projects in accordance with the needs and expectations of our communities.

The position holder is required to produce economical and timely engineering designs, plans, estimates, schedules, specifications and all associated documentation to enable Council to carry out delivery of its Capital Works Program.

This includes civil design and drafting, stakeholder consultation and preparation or associated documentation and to mentor junior design engineers in civil design and drafting.

Additionally, the position holder is required to engage and supervise several external professional consultants engaged in the delivery of projects in accordance with the Shire’s Procurement Policy.

The incumbent is required to work with a high degree of autonomy and with minimal supervision.

Role dimensions & responsibilities include

  • Produce quality detailed civil design drawings and specifications.
  • Produce quality estimates of rates and costs.
  • Produces quality project briefs, project delivery plans and accurate project documentation.
  • Provide an efficient and effective design service through the timely and accurate production of competent and innovative engineering design, and undertake engineering design work as required, to agreed timeframes.
  • Manages the delivery of infrastructure projects from conception through to completion by co-ordination of the community consultation, design, approvals, tendering and construction stages.

Skills, experience & other requirements

  • Degree qualification (or equivalent) in civil engineering or similar discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the design and delivery of civil infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of AutoCAD Civil3D and Civil Site Design (ARD) (5 years minimum).
  • Experience in contract management and tender preparation.
  • Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and associated Regulations.
  • High level of computer literacy.
  • High level oral and written communication skills.
  • A current Working with Children’s Check with MPS nominated as the employer.
  • A current Victorian Drivers Licence.
  • Applicants must be willing to undergo an Australian Criminal History Check.
  • Qualification audits may be conducted. Substance testing and/or an independent medical examination may also be requested as part of pre-employment screening.
