Mornington Peninsula Shire Youth Services (MPYS) is a team of highly skilled youth

workers that are dedicated to supporting the health and wellbeing of all young people 10-25 on the Mornington Peninsula. Youth Services is driven by the voice of young people and aims to:

  • Build confidence in young people to actively engage in their community.
  • Improve the recognition, celebration and promotion of young peoples achievements.
  • Develop and strengthen partnerships that will enable young people to access other local opportunities and services.
  • Increase opportunities for young people to access planned, safe and socially inclusive recreational activities and events including sports, recreation games, and camps.
  • Increase opportunities for young people to access learning and education opportunities, particularly those that have disengaged from school, vocational education and employment.


Job Tasks & Responsibilities

The Youth Services Facilitator will work as part of an effective team that supports young people aged 10- 25 through a variety of prevention and early intervention services including supporting the facilitation of group programs and activities, making young people feel safe and engaged in the 3 placed based youth centres (Hastings, Mornington and Rosebud), assisting with youth events, assisting with referral pathways and ensuring all young people that access the service have an active voice and are made to feel welcome. Specifically, the position is required to:

  • Support the Youth Services Team in the delivery of programs, activities and interventions that ensure all young people feel happy, health and connected.
  • Ensure all young people that access our service are made to feel welcome, safe and included
  • Ensure all young people that access our service have an active voice in their community


Skills & Experience

The successful candidate will have: 

  • A minimum Certificate IV Level Qualification in Youth Work, Social Science, Youth Recreation or relevant discipline.
  • Experience in facilitating a diverse range of recreation programs and activities with young people.
  • Experience in running personal development programs with young people.
  • Ability to relate and engage with young people 10-25.
  • Understanding of the No Wrong Door model of practice
  • Understanding of youth needs specific to the Mornington Peninsula Shire.
  • Ability to engage and support young people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to participate with young people in high energy activities.
  • Ability to facilitate programs and activities for young people.
  • Knowledge and skills to provide information, referral and advocacy for individual young people in a manner that demonstrates cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Ability to write case notes, file notes and write reports.
  • Ability to use computers, the internet and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Understanding of Youth Issues that are specific to the Mornington Peninsula Shire.
  • Hold an Employee Working with Children Check (mandatory)
  • Be prepared to undertake an Australian Criminal History Check (mandatory).
  • Hold a current Driver's Licence (mandatory)
